Veganuary - Curious?
Veganuary is coming but for some what is it all about and why should you try it?
Veganism has certainly been enjoying its share of the limelight recently with various celebrity endorsements and environmentalists advising us from an ecological perspective. There are many reasons why we should pay attention to the philosophies of veganism, health, environmental, impact and animal welfare. Whatever your reasons for pondering whether to give Veganuary a go, the truth is it has never been easier and more accessible to try being Vegan.
"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."
At "I Love Zero" we only stock Vegan products. All our foods, cosmetics, household and cleaning products are vegan. We believe that Veganism plays a large part of our shop ethos of sustainability. We also practise what we preach. Theresa has been a vegetarian since a teenager and Vegan for just over a year. Paul went Vegan in an attempt to reduce - and indeed reverse - a variety of health conditions. Veganism really is a lifestyle; however, we started our journey by initially embarking on plant based diet.
What To Eat?
Anything you want but cut out foods that are derived from animals. Products like meat, fish and milk are not necessary for a healthy diet. Sticking to a vegan diet is simply a matter of following healthy eating guidelines, in much the same way as you would following any diet. The British Dietetic Association confirms that well planned vegan diets can support healthy living in people of all ages. (Click here to read article)
There are literally thousands of vegan recipes that can be found on line. During veganuary we will offer a few simple suggestions for purchase in store.

Ecology.
There are so many article on how a vegetable based diet is better for the planet than a meat based diet. You can google and research this for yourself. Safe to say I found some pictures that says more than a thousand words.
Vegans don’t eat any animal products at all, including honey, dairy and eggs. Many shop bought ready-made products may contain animal ingredients so the labels of all manufactured products do need to be read carefully.
We think you will enjoy the journey. It really is the best time to try out being Vegan. Every little helps, so even if it is that you just reduce your meat intake and become more conscious of the ingredients in products you can have a positive impact on your health and well-being and that of the planet.
