Cooper King Distillery

Located just ten miles north of the historic city of York, the distillery sits nestled between the rolling contours of the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the rugged Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Producing flavour-driven, sustainable drinks is at the core of what we do, because we believe drinking good spirits needn’t cost the Earth.

The founders are Abbie and Chris, one a scientist the other an Architect, were inspired by a trip to Tasmania in 2014. Whilst researching for a whisky blog for friends back home, they visited all eight operational whisky distilleries at a time when the industry was just taking off. These small producers were carving a path for hand-crafted premium whisky.

Upon returning to the UK they setup a sustainable distillery which focuses on flavour and authenticity to bring unique and exceptional spirits to the table. Not only have their spirits won numerous awards they are proud to advocate the following initiatives.

England's first carbon negative Gin

Every 700ml bottle of Dry or Herb Gin removes 1kg more CO₂e from the atmosphere than they emit, making them England’s first carbon-negative gins.

Tree Planting

1 square metre of native broadleaf UK woodland is planted for every bottle of gin sold, thanks to our charity partnership with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT). We’ve planted over 15,000 square metres of managed woodland so far, offsetting approximately 250,000kg of CO₂ over the 50 year lifespan of the trees.
